Information Session: Community Health Worker Training Program for English Language Learners
Begin a career as a Community Health Worker (CHW) and help bridge gaps between different populations and healthcare or social service systems. You will build academic, and healthcare related English language skills while preparing to become a CHW through classwork and activities. Topics include communication, case management, cultural competence, motivational interviewing, population health, and various aspects of health and wellness in addition to an internship. You will also receive extensive career development services to help you gain employment in the healthcare field. Upon program completion, you’ll earn a LaGuardia certificate of completion.
Classes begin: March 6, 2023
- 4-month Community Health Worker Training program for those who speak advanced English
- 125-hour paid internship at a healthcare agency after the course
- Healthcare Career counseling, job search and placement support
- An industry recognized Certificate from LaGuardia Community College
- The opportunity to earn 9 credits if you continue your healthcare education with LaGuardia Community College
Program requirements:
- Be 18 years or older
- Be an advanced English Language Learner, classes will be taught in English
- Be a New York City resident and legally authorized to work in the United States
- Have a High School Diploma or equivalent
- Be available to study a minimum of 16 hours per week evenings and weekends and complete 125-hour internship.
- Be COVID-19 vaccinated.
- Have access to computer or laptop
