Emergency Management

Know What Disasters Could Affect Your Area

Launched in February 2003, Ready is a National public service campaign that asks individuals to do four key things: (1) stay informed about the different types of emergencies that could occur and their appropriate responses, (2) make a family emergency plan, (3) build an emergency supply kit, and (4) get involved in your community by taking action to prepare for emergencies.

Visit Ready.gov to see how you can make a family emergency plan, or to learn how to build your very own emergency supply kits for whatever disaster strikes.

Hurricane Evacuation Zones for NYCHA Developments by Borough

The Atlantic hurricane season starts June 1 every year. New York City is most at risk August through November. But the best way to be prepared for a weather emergency is to always be prepared, no matter what month it is.

Use the maps below to identify your Hurricane Evacuation Zone. Visit nyc.gov/knowyourzone  to find the nearest hurricane evacuation center. Pets are allowed in all City evacuation centers. Be sure to transport them in a carrier and bring a leash, food, and any needed medication. Make arrangements to stay with friends or family who live outside a hurricane evacuation zone in case an evacuation order is issued for your zone.
